In the Land of the Living and for All Eternity

“Does God want me to study theology?”
“Does it matter to God how I write my papers?”
“Does God care if I feel overwhelmed?”
These are just some of the questions I asked while studying at Fuller Theological Seminary. It is often only in hindsight that we can truly see God’s goodness in the land of the living. He has cared for me in the tiniest details, restoring my wholeness, arranging timely surgery, and guiding me to complete my master’s degree in theology. God has consistently shown up and is faithful in his timing. His mercy never fails.
That said, being led by the Spirit into a world marred by sin is fraught with uncertainty. The transformative grace of God does not guarantee a comfortable life. The Spirit is disruptive, shattering our old religious beliefs in our upbringing and giving us a fresh understanding of who God is and who we are. This is why God has placed a woman with wisdom and grace, in my life. Together, we share our triumphs and challenges, supporting one another in ways that deepen our faith, hope, and love. Despite not knowing exactly which class to choose, we embarked on our journey together with a New Testament Introduction, where we bring the hopes, dreams, and passions that God has instilled in our hearts into prophetic expression in the world around us. Even though we are eight thousand miles apart and live in different time zones, our bond transcends the racial and geographic barriers. Technology allows us to connect through emails, texts, photos, and recordings of class presentations as we progress toward graduation.
Our paths may be more ambiguous and uncertain, but the work of the Spirit is always present. It can be uncomfortable because we want stability, but we find peace if we’re willing to follow. Carlotta has a heart for encouraging people with her life experiences to see God’s presence in our lives. She always inspires people to trust God’s plan, even amid uncertainty. We long to witness God’s presence transforming lives in ways that only he can.
Prayer
Dear Lord, as I begin 2025, I offer You my heart anew. Please help me discern the burdens and dreams you are placing upon me and fill me with the faith I need to courageously put them into action through the power of the Spirit.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
